Saturday in the Psalms (Psalm 124)

Psalm 124 (ESV)

Our Help Is in the Name of the Lord

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

124 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—
    let Israel now say—
if it had not been the Lord who was on our side
    when people rose up against us,
then they would have swallowed us up alive,
    when their anger was kindled against us;
then the flood would have swept us away,
    the torrent would have gone over us;
then over us would have gone
    the raging waters.
Blessed be the Lord,
    who has not given us
    as prey to their teeth!
We have escaped like a bird
    from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
    and we have escaped!
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.

In my Bible beside Psalm 124, I found a list I wrote of ministry opportunities my family was involved in last year. Under the list, I penned, "Potential Impact - HUGE! Potential Glory - HUGE! Potential Blessing - HUGE!" I recognized that with all we had going on and the possibilities for God to use us, we were bound to run into some obstacles and challenges along the way. Sometimes just the planning and preparation were enough to leave us frazzled and exhausted. We were often worn thin and worn out. If it were not for the Lord being on our side, we could have easily been swallowed up or swept away. The Lord was our Help and we saw amazing things happen as we pressed on to accomplish all He had called us to do.
I pray you are encouraged as you look forward to the tasks the Lord has given you. Will you trust Him to be your help and confidently rest knowing He is on your side? Will you look for opportunities to make much of the Lord and bring glory to His name?  Your help is in the name of the LORD! He will see you through!
