Saturday in the Psalms (Psalm 24)

Psalm 24 (NLT)

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths.
Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
Only those whose hands and hearts are pure,
    who do not worship idols
    and never tell lies.
They will receive the Lord’s blessing
and have a right relationship with God their savior.
Such people may seek you
and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob. Interlude
Open up, ancient gates!
    Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
Who is the King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty;
    the Lord, invincible in battle.
Open up, ancient gates!
    Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
10 Who is the King of glory?
    The Lord of Heaven’s Armies—
he is the King of glory. Interlude
In Psalm 24, David, the man after God's own heart, is obviously yearning to be be closer to the Lord...to dwell in the presence of the Lord. How would you rate your desire for God's presence today? Are you desperate for Him? Do you long to be closer to Him? Have you grown complacent and stale? Is there need for personal revival? Of course, we can only experience God's presence when we have surrendered our lives to the Lord Jesus. It is by the blood of Jesus that we become eligible to ascend to the mountain of the Lord. Can you remember the moment you first knew Him...the joy of sins forgiven and fellowship with your creator restored...adoption? What inhibits that kind of fellowship today? Are you even closer than you were back then? Today is a great day to stop for a while and satisfy the longing of your soul.
