John 14:26-27 (NLT)
26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
I just realized from these verses how valuable it would be to pray "teach me and remind me." I guess it is sort of a take on "What would Jesus say? What would Jesus do?" It is easy when we face hard times to fill our minds with self help remedies or turn to the advice of others when in reality what we really need is to be taught and reminded of what Jesus said. Jesus went on to say that he was leaving us peace of heart and mind and there was no need for us to be troubled or afraid. So then, we should consider what is troubling us today and what we fear? We can call out those things to the Lord asking the Holy Spirit to teach and remind us. We can make a point to ask Him to train our ears to hear His still small voice louder than the advice the world wants to give us. When we pray this way, according to the scripture, we can be certain we are praying according to His will for us.
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
